Prince Harry and Megan Markle recently announced that they will be giving up their roles and responsibilities and the duck and duchess of Suxexx. Their decision caused a bit of chaos in the royal family. Now that they have transitioned to their new lives, its time for the rest of the royal family to pick up where they left off and move on.

One case, in particular, is that of Princess Anne, Harry's aunt, who is reportedly set to become Captain-General of the Royal Marines. The role prince Harry occupied which he will officially give up this spring.

The queen is expected to give a formal announcement of Anne's appointment anytime soon. Prince Harry and Meghan will return to the U.K. in the weeks ahead to take part in their final events in the capacity of Royal officials to attend one last "farewell engagement" with the Royal Marines

Princess Anne will be the first woman to hold the position of when she takes over for Harry. Before Prince Harry took over the position a little over two years ago, Prince Philip manned the role of Captain-General for 64 years. The long-serving royal only stepped back from the role in 2017, when he retired from his public duties at the age of 96. Per the Times, Philip was "particularly keen" for his daughter to get the gig.

Princess Anne, Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise was born on 15 August 1950. She is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. At the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the British throne, behind her mother – then Princess Elizabeth – and older brother, Charles. She rose to second after her mother's accession but is 14th in line as of August 2019.

Anne is known for her charitable work and is a patron of over 200 organizations. She is also known for her equestrian talents; she won two silver medals (1975) and one gold medal (1971) at the European Eventing Championships, and she is the first member of the British royal family to have competed in the Olympic Games. Princess Anne has held the title of Princess Royal since 1987 and is its seventh holder.

Anne got married to Captain Mark Phillips in 1973; they separated in 1989 and divorced in 1992. They have two children and four grandchildren.

In 1992, within months of her divorce, Anne married Commander (now Vice Admiral) Sir Timothy Laurence, whom she had met while he served as her mother's equerry between 1986 and 1989.

Since 2012, she has held the rank of Admiral and Chief Commandant of Women in the Royal Navy. Her rank in the royal military is about to go up with the new reported appointment.

Prince William’s title is updated

This is not the only appointment the members of the royal family are getting to meet up the responsibilities and positions left vacant by prince Harry's stepping down.

Queen Elizabeth also updated Prince William's title a few days ago in recent light of Prince Harry and Megan Markle giving up their Royal and Honorary status. Prince William's title was bumped up to Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The new title comes along to add to the 37-year-old's list of titles including The Duke of Cambridge and Earl of Strathearn.

Prince William's new title gives him the capacity as “the Sovereign’s personal representative to the Annual General Assembly of the Church of Scotland” whose role will be to make opening and closing speeches to the Assembly and perform other official duties as announced by the government announced on Saturday.

The need for the new title arose when brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave up their royal titles in what is being dubbed “Megxit.” by the media.

The announcement came about a week ago in a shattering Instagram post that the couple, who are parents to 8-month-old Archie, forfeited royal life, siting a desire for financial independence and to raise their son “with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born” while leaving the U.K. as reasons for their decision.

“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.” The crown responded:

And an emergency family meeting between Prince William, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry, and Prince Charles took place to hash out details — however, Markle, then in Canada, wasn’t present.

Why Prince Harry and Megan Markle stepped down from royal responsibilities

Prince Harry and Megan Markle's decision to step down came as a shock to some people. The news came when Buckingham Palace announced that the couple will no longer carry out royal and military duties, nor will they receive public funds for them.

“With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations,”. “While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty. The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.” the notice read.

The exact reason for them taking a step back is not clear. Speculations point to Markle and Prince Harry having to deal with serious tabloid and media scrutiny. It got so bad, in fact, that they made the decision to pursue legal action against several U.K. publications last year.

Opened up about some of the struggles, the couple said in the documentary Harry and Meghan: An Africa Journey.

“I don’t think anybody could understand that, but in all fairness, I had no idea—which probably sounds difficult to understand here—but when I first met my now husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friend said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’ And I very naively…we’re American, we don’t have that there, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in tabloids!’ I didn't get it. So yeah, it’s been complicated," she said in the film.

The queen in her wisdom may have seen this coming as reports say before Meghan and Harry Got married, Queen Elizabeth reportedly reached out to them with an offer that would make Megan's transition into the royal family a lot smoother. According to The Sun, Queen Elizabeth wanted Meghan to take on a lesser role in the family that would allow her to continue acting.

“From the early days, the Queen really wanted to agree on a smooth transition for Meghan,” a source claims. “The offer would have allowed her to carry on her career but she was happy to stop acting to become a working member of the royal family.”

At the time of her wedding, Meghan discussed leaving her acting career behind and said that she was excited to begin a new chapter in her life. She also stated that she had put everything she had in her career and felt like it was a good time to step away.

Fast forward two years and palace officials are reportedly frustrated by Megxit because they believe it could have been prevented if Meghan and Prince Harry had accepted Queen Elizabeth’s offer.

They are also disappointed because it seems like Meghan and Harry were pressured into quitting, which could not be further from the truth. The royal family has not confirmed the rumors about Queen Elizabeth’s offer.

Enjoying Royal duties free life

Stepping down from royal responsibilities have given Meghan Markle and Prince Harry a little space to be adventurous. Last Thursday the couple was in Miami, where they spoke at a JP Morgan event. The event was at 1 Hotel in Miami's South Beach, and apparently, so was Meghan and Harry's double-date with Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez.

Page Six reported that the two couples dined at the hotel's restaurant, Habitat.

"Harry and Meghan got on really well with Jennifer and Alex, and spent some time chatting with them over dinner," the source said. "J.Lo was overheard inviting the couple and their baby Archie to her and Alex’s house in Miami to spend time with them and their kids."

Page Six also says that Meghan and Harry reportedly stayed at the Palm Beach home of Serena Williams, Meghan's good friend.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have promised to always support the queen

When they initially announced Megxit — the duke and duchess hoped to work as part-time royals. Unfortunately, that was not really possible. Instead, the pair have stepped away from their royal duties completely. However, though they are no longer senior royals — Markle and Prince Harry have decided that they still have a duty to Queen Elizabeth and the royal family.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” they said in a statement. “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
